Hi, I'm Christen Ganley and I'm the Program Chair for the radiation therapy program here at Baptist University. Radiation therapists treat tumors with high energy radiation beams. They require not only great technical and scientific expertise, but also the ability to treat patients with cancer with great compassion and empathy. All of these skills are addressed in Baptist University's well-rounded radiation therapy program. Here, you'll develop the scientific knowledge, habits, demeanor and commitment that distinguish standout radiation therapists. Radiation therapists work under the supervision of a radiation oncologist. They administer radiation therapy treatments, provide patient care, and maintain Radiation Safety for patients.
Clinical personnel must be able to assist in treatment delivery procedures, including tumor localization and dosimetry. The Radiation Therapy program at Baptist University is a bachelor's degree program, and is dedicated to the study of Radiation Therapy. The program prepares you for a challenging career at the forefront of cancer treatment. New radiation therapy techniques and technologies appear constantly and Baptist University ensures that its students received the most up to date radiation therapy training. The treatment equipment that we use is the linear accelerator. We have a virtual linear accelerator here in our classroom lab on campus. This allows a safe environment for students to learn and to practice to administer radiation. Upon successful completion of the major, graduates are eligible to sit for the certification examination in radiation therapy administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. The university's radiation therapy graduates work in hospitals, freestanding cancer centers, therapy equipment corporations, and research facilities. Graduates may continue their education, and enter into specialized programs for such areas as medical dosimetry and medical physics. Graduates possess the knowledge and skills to enter competitive post baccalaureate programs, including Administration, Education, Applied Health Sciences and Marketing.
Hi, I'm Lauren Brown, and I'm the clinical coordinator for the Radiation Therapy program. We have a variety of clinical sites that offer diverse experience with different machines and patient loads, provide hands on learning at a cancer center. The students have the opportunity to learn in the classroom with me and with registered radiation therapists and oncologists in the field. Our clinical education rotations feature the use of baskets, indices, as well as a variety of others.
Thank you for your interest in Radiation Therapy and our program here at Baptist University.
