Welcome to the division of Nursing at Baptist Health Sciences University. I'm Dr. Cheryl Johnson -Joy, Associate Dean in the division. It is a pleasure to talk with you today about nursing at Baptist University. We have a supportive, caring culture here in the Division of Nursing, where we pride ourselves on our students being a name and not a number. We instill that same mindset into our students so that they see their patients as a name and not just the patient in room 807. It's probably due to reasons such as this, that according to the National Gallup poll, nursing has been rated the number one most ethical and honest profession for the last 19 years. The only year that nursing was not rated number one was the year after the 911 attacks, when firefighters received the number one rating. Nursing is a challenging, rewarding career that offers a variety of career options to choose from once licensed to practice.
For example, there's Intensive Care Unit nursing, pediatrics, as well as the ability to advance in a leadership role. Nursing opportunities lie not only in the hospital, but in industry like FedEx, Travel Nursing, and even Flight Nursing. The job market is rich, and many of our students have job offers before they graduate. The salary isn't bad either. Salary, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics is $75,300. And that doesn't take into account any difference in pay, due to work in different shifts or overtime. Nursing is a career that involves lifelong learning to stay current. Nurses stay current by attending workshops and conferences, by reading, and let's not forget about pursuing advanced education. The opportunity for nurses to advance their education is offered right here at Baptist University in our own Doctor of Nursing Practice program. The Division of Nursing at Baptist University is a great place to begin and advance your professional nursing career. So if you're looking for a career in nursing, one that offers endless possibilities for practice and continued growth, look no further than the Nursing program at Baptist Health Sciences University.
